Pre-Employment Drug Testing
On Monday we conducted a Pre-Employment Drug Test. The millennial who was looking at changing job had to have a clean drug test. The employer had recently had a staff member with a Meth issue so the recruiter had said that the employer had developed a new drug policy – smart thinking.
The problem for this gentlemen is that a few weeks ago he smoked a joint. The 2nd problem is that the recruiter asked for a Urine Test. THC, Cannabis, can be detected in Urine for weeks, the exact period of time depends on usage.
THC, Tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive constituent in Cannabis.
Had he had an Oral Fluid test he probably would have passed. THC metabolises a lot quicker in Oral Fluid, a day or two vs weeks. The detection period and impairment period are more closely aligned. I can only say he ‘probably would have passed’ because only he knows when he last had a joint and how often he smokes.
Where do things stand at the moment? We don’t know. The gentlemen has told the recruiter the result. They haven’t, yet, asked for a confirmation test. The employer knows the result and is thinking about it. It is a bit of a mess. A mess that could have been avoided if they had asked for an Oral Fluid Test!
